Students Can Earn Career Completion Certificates While Working on GED, HSED, High School Completion Programs or ESL at MATC
Dec. 11, 2017
Students in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and those working on their General Education Development certificate (GED), High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) or Adult High School credentials at Milwaukee Area Technical College now have the opportunity to work concurrently on a college-level Career Pathway Program. Participants can earn certificates that can lead to employment in areas such as healthcare customer service, administrative professional, boiler operator, welding fundamentals, carpentry, plumbing, appliance technician and masonry/bricklaying. Courses will be offered at multiple MATC campuses.
Support classes related to the subject matter of each pathway program will be offered. Students will work toward certificates in areas that can lead to employment while continuing their high school completion programs. Financial assistance may be available. The program is open to students 18-1/2 and older.
“This is an opportunity for students to prepare for careers while they continue their pre-college studies,” said Regina Smith, dean of the School of Pre-College Education. “We’re excited to give students a chance to get on the pathway to success.”
MATC courses begin Jan. 16, 2018, so apply by Jan. 5, 2018 at any of MATC’s campuses in Downtown Milwaukee, Mequon, Oak Creek, West Allis or the Education Center at Walker’s Square. Bring a photo I.D., your social security number if applicable, and your 2015 tax records if you are applying for financial aid. If you are a current or former student in MATC’s School of Pre-College Education, please also bring your latest TABE scores and your student I.D.
