Dr. Regina O. Smith Appointed Dean of MATC's School of Pre-College Education

Dr. Regina O. Smith has been appointed dean of Milwaukee Area Technical College’s School of Pre-College Education, effective Aug. 1. She replaces recently retired dean Dr. Gloria Pitchford-Nicholas. Smith has been a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Department of Administrative Leadership since 2005 and served as department chair since 2015.
Prior to that, she was as an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Policy Foundations and Administrative Services at Portland State University, Portland, Ore.; and a research assistant in the Michigan Career and Technical Education Center at Michigan State University.
Smith has been the chair of MATC’s Pre-College Education Advisory Committee since 2011. MATC’s School of Pre-College Education includes a wide variety of programs, including an Adult High School, GED/HSED, basic skills, bilingual education, high school completion, the Right Path Program and the English as a Second Language Program.
Smith earned a doctoral degree in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education and a master’s degree in Educational Technology/Instructional Design, both from Michigan State University. She holds a master’s degree in Christian Education from Calvin Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Detroit.
