Career and Technical Workshop for Educators to be Held at MATC's Mequon Campus June 14-16

May 19, 2016

Milwaukee Area Technical College will hold a three-day “MATC Career and Technical Workshop for Middle and High School Teachers and Counselors” Tuesday-Thursday, June 14-16, at MATC’s Mequon Campus, 5555 W. Highland Road. The free camps will highlight the current and projected growth of middle-skill jobs. Educators will learn more about technical education and MATC academic programs and services to share with their students.

Camp will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Participants will earn 24 DPI clock hours and must register by June 10.

Sixty-five percent of all jobs now require a two-year degree or less of education, but only seven-nine percent of high school students attend two-year colleges. Employers are searching for workers with technical degrees. At the same time, college debt in the U.S. is $1.3 trillion and growing. Much of that debt is held by students with higher-level degrees. Camp participants will learn more about these trends.

Day one focuses on career and technical education (CTE), MATC’s academic programs and student support, career tools and learning about careers in high demand. Day two offers hands-on career experiences in welding, automotive work and environmental health/water quality. Day three will include field trips to companies in a variety of career clusters. Participants should bring their own lunches. For more information, call Steve Burleson at (414) 297-7262. To register, visit or call Sandra Webster at (262) 238-2205.

The camps are funded by an MATC Faculty Innovation Grant.
