MATC Cybersecurity Team Takes First Place in National Competition

Milwaukee Area Technical College’s nine-member student cybersecurity team named “Vote for Pedro” took first place in the postseason national championship of the National Cyber League (NCL). The team also finished in first place nationally in the Silver Bracket, which represents teams considered to have an intermediate level knowledge and skills. Nearly 130 teams from 90 colleges and universities competed.
The NCL provides ongoing virtual training for collegiate students to develop, practice and validate their cybersecurity skills using high-fidelity simulation environments. Students competed in open source intelligence, network traffic analysis, log analysis, scanning and reconnaissance, wireless access exploitation, cryptography, password cracking, web application exploitation, and enumeration and exploitation.
Team members included Khamis Abdalla, Garrett Condon, Ryan Condon, Jason Dynek, David Jacko, Santiago Rivera, Robb Rusch, Jason Sonia and Jon Streier. Jerry Lieberthal, MATC information technology instructor, served as team advisor.
