Job Fair Held at MATC's Oak Creek Campus Oct. 13

Oct. 14, 2015

A free, public job fair was held Oct. 13 at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Oak Creek Campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave. More than 70 employers from the metropolitan Milwaukee area, including many from Oak Creek, participated. The employers had jobs available in a wide range of fields, including health care, technical and skilled labor, the service industry and sales. The job fair was co-sponsored by MATC, the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, the City of Oak Creek, the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce, MetroGo and the Milwaukee County Transit System.

One of the themes of the job fair was to highlight the importance of public transportation to both job seekers and employers. A recent extension of the Milwaukee Country Transit System’s Route 80 to southern Oak Creek now makes it possible for bus riders to reach jobs with employers that were not previously served by the transit system.

Steve Scaffidi, mayor of the City of Oak Creek, is enthusiastic about new economic development in the city. He said that the Oak Creek Department of Community Development anticipates new businesses will bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Oak Creek within the next two years.
