MATC Offered Free Heart Scans to Veterans on Nov. 11
Nov. 12, 2015
Milwaukee Area Technical College offered free heart scans to veterans Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day. Students from MATC’s Cardiovascular Technology Associate Degree program performed the scans in the Health Building on the Downtown Milwaukee Campus.
“We were proud to provide this service to our veterans who served our nation so honorably and selflessly,” said MATC President Dr. Vicki J. Martin.
An echocardiogram is a non-invasive scan that uses sound waves to create photographs of the heart. The procedure is used to show the heart’s structure and how it functions. Cardiologists use results to identify heart health issues.
The offerings were coordinated by School of Health Sciences’ associate dean Josie Veal and program coordinator Richard Dettman, who are both veterans. Veal served in the United States Army Reserve and Dettman served in the United States Air Force and Wisconsin Air National Guard.
