Bohdan Zachary Named Milwaukee Public Television General Manager
The Milwaukee Area Technical College District Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Bohdan Zachary as General Manager for Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV).
Zachary has been with KCETLink, based in Burbank, Calif., since 1997 and currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Broadcasting, Programming and Syndication. KCET is the most-watched independent public television station in southern California and the second most-watched independent public television station in the nation. KCET was a PBS member station from 1970 until December 31, 2010.
"Bohdan has articulated a dynamic vision for Milwaukee Public Television and I look forward to welcoming him to Milwaukee and MATC later this month," said MATC President Dr. Vicki J. Martin. "I am confident that Bohdan will build on MPTV's 58-year legacy of providing excellent local, regional and national programming and services that improve the quality of life in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois."
Prior to KCETLink, Zachary held positions of Director/Producer and Content Producer for E! Entertainment Television and Content Producer at Interactive Network. Prior to that, he founded North South Films in California and also has extensive experience as an executive producer.
"I am honored to join MPTV as its new general manager," said Zachary. "With its vibrant history as a community leader, MPTV will build on its successes as well as its mission to inspire, entertain and educate viewers. I foresee an expansion of MPTV's local productions to further reflect the voices, faces and needs of the communities it serves.
"What's equally exciting to me is the opportunity to grow and deepen MPTV's partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College and the education programs the college offers," continued Zachary. "The next generation of public media storytellers, producers and innovators are enrolled at MATC, and MPTV is the right environment to further students' professional growth with new projects that will be seen on-air on MPTV and online at mptv.org."
Zachary succeeds Ellis Bromberg, who served as MPTV's general manager since 2000 and is retiring later this month.
MPTV is southeastern Wisconsin's premier non-commercial media organization. MPTV consists of two high-definition television stations, WMVS and WMVT, and seven additional digital television services. The MPTV stations are the area's only over-the-air source for PBS and other national public television programs, and also offer a diverse schedule of their own award-winning local series and specials. The stations are watched by over 614,329 viewers each week throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. For more information, visit www.mptv.org.
