The presidents of Milwaukee Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay signed a new agreement that formalizes a partnership between the two institutions and makes an option to complete a bachelor’s degree online available to MATC graduates. The signing ceremony was held Wednesday, Oct. 9 on MATC's Downtown Milwaukee Campus
The agreement joins existing partnerships between the UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program and Fox Valley Technical College, Northcentral Technical College, Nicolet College and Waukesha County Technical College. The agreement with WCTC also was signed Oct. 9.
Jon Koch, a dedicated southeast Wisconsin admission and academic adviser, already is working with adults at MATC and WCTC.
“This marks a very important step that we’re taking, to become an accessible and affordable online education option for the Milwaukee area,” said Steve VandenAvond, Associate Provost for the Division of Outreach and Adult Access. “We’re dedicating time and resources to make ourselves available to working adults in this market, working closely with our technical college partners to provide a more seamless path to a bachelor’s degree.”
UW-Green Bay’s Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree, which officially launched in 2007, focuses exclusively on technical college graduates who have an applied associate degree. Graduates with these degrees are eligible to pursue the BAS degree by transferring in 60 credits, starting at UW-Green Bay as a junior, and finishing the degree fully online. The technical college partnership is mutually beneficial, said Jonathan Feld, MATC director of articulation and transfer.
"This partnership gives MATC students the opportunity to continue their education at UW-Green Bay in a seamless fashion," Feld said. "Both institutions have students' best interests in mind and this is a tangible example of putting students first."
