Annual 'Five Star Food and Wine Evening' Breaks Attendance, Fundraising Records
MILWAUKEE (April 20, 2012) Cuisine prepared by Milwaukee Area Technical College culinary arts, and baking and pastry arts students highlighted the annual "Five Star Food & Wine Evening" April 19 at MATC's Downtown Milwaukee Campus. A record-breaking 592 paid attendees participated in the event. Proceeds from ticket sales cleared approximately $24,000, which will be given to the MATC Foundation Five Star Scholarship Fund. The fund is used for scholarship and continuing education opportunities for MATC students and faculty in culinary arts, culinary management, baking and pastry arts, hotel/hospitality, and meeting and event management programs.
Culinary fare included a smokehouse, seafood, cold buffet, Pan-Asian delicacies, and cuisine from Cuba and New Orleans. There also was a sweet and specialty pastries station. Food offerings were paired with a variety of wines. Student-created cakes designed to look like bodices of wedding dresses and 100-percent-edible chocolate showpieces (sculptures) were on display and auctioned off at the end of the evening. In addition, there was a silent auction of baskets and donated items as well as a raffle.
