Medical Laboratory Technician

Begin a healthcare career as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices. Opportunities also exist in commercial industries, scientific research and infection control.

Career Outlook: Currently, the job market looks favorable. In the laboratory, the MLT performs analytical procedures under the supervision of a medical technologist or physician.

Start Dates: August/January

Students attend classes four to five days each week; the clinical experiences near the program’s end are arranged at clinical laboratories. Service work cannot be substituted for the Clinical Experiences. Service work by students is non-compulsory outside of class hours. Students attending clinical cannot be used as staff replacement. Upon acceptance to the program and at the start of clinical, a formal faculty-led orientation will occur with all program students.

This program does not have a waitlist.

A criterion considered in the petition process is verification of student residency. Students selected via the petition process are chosen based on MATC district residency, then Wisconsin nondistrict residency, followed by nonresidents, unless otherwise stated.

Special Admission Requirements: One year high school-level or one semester college-level algebra, biology and chemistry.
