MATC Promise

You can help promising students achieve their dreams of a college education.

As part of our scholarship campaign, the MATC Foundation is raising funds for the MATC Promise program.

Who is eligible?

The Promise of College for New High School Graduates...

Low-income Milwaukee area high school students who never thought they would be able to afford college. They must meet specific financial criteria and performance benchmarks in their senior year of high school.

The Promise of College for Returning Adult Students...
Low-income, returning adult students who have been out of college for more than two years, but want to finish their associate's degree and meet specific financial or other criteria.

What does it do?

MATC provides free tuition for up to five semesters - plus hands-on support to help students graduate job-ready. It ensures that students access all financial aid for which they are already eligible - then fills the gap with a scholarship for tuition and fees.

The MATC Promise started with just New High School Graduates as an important initiative and was the first of its kind in Wisconsin. Now MATC is also responding directly to the urgent needs of our community, where area employers are desperate to fill middle skill jobs and yet many local residents lack the resources and support to gain the degrees necessary for these positions.

  • With the Adult Promise we are targeting the fastest-growing segment of our population -- those 24 years or older -- and a population that wants to go back to school.
  • Nationally, 60% of adults without a degree said they worry about cost when considering whether to return to school.
  • For many, life events interrupted their education, derailing their dreams temporarily but not erasing them forever.

Through the MATC Promise and other key initiatives, we are providing the talent pipeline for area employees and removing barriers to education so those who are economically disadvantaged have the opportunity for a better life.
